Rust Repair
Car rust can be a frustrating and unsightly problem for any vehicle owner. Fortunately, there are a variety methods available to repair and prevent rust from spreading. From sanding painting to using rust inhibitors.
What causes rust
Car rust is caused by a chemical reaction between iron, oxygen and moisture. This process can be accelerated by exposure to salt, which is often used on roads during the winter months.
Preventing rust
Regularly washing your car and keeping it clean can help remove any dirt or debris that can lead to rust. Applying a protective coating or wax can also help prevent rust from forming. In some cases it just happens.
Treatment
We use rust rust inhibitors such as POR 15 and fiber glass patches over areas for small rust repairs to give a longer repair life. Fiberglass is preferred over body filler that will allow water and moisture build up and more subject to cracking.
Can I keep rust from happening?
Unfortunately there is no absolute answer. The newest cars form rust and that can come from factory manufacturing error. Water will leak the paint trims, between panels and build up moisture in these areas and more through heavy rains and snow. Salt from city roads is devastating to factory paint. So it is important to keep your car free of salt, debris and snow/ water build up all year long.
